Question Wide Parameters

Introduction.

This section outlines all of the question parameters and options that are available when designing a question.

It is important to note that not all parameters and options are available in every question type.

Some parameters and options are not relevant to some question types and so are not available.  For example - it would not make sense in a single select question to make an answer "exclusive" since only one answer is available in a single select anyway.

This section describes all the parameters and options in the system.  To see which parameters and options are available for a particular question type go to the section "Question types and their parameters" for a description of the question types and the parameters and options available in each.

What is a question parameter or question option.

Parameters are elements of a question type that generally define the behaviour or formatting of a "question" as a whole.  They are available to the user by clicking on the "Answer Parameters" drop down in each question.

Clicking on the above drop down reveals a set of parameters much like that seen below.

To use a parameter you simple set the detail of the parameter that you are interested in controlling. For the example  in the parameters above, randomize has been selected which will cause the answers to be presented in a random order for each respondent.

Options are question elements generally used to control the behaviour or formatting of a particular "answer" in a question.  These options are arranged as icons that sit just above the answer set or code frame.  They look like this:

They usually cause a selection or text box to appear next to each answer,  For example, clicking the pin icon above causes a set of check boxes to appear next to each answer.  In this example the answer "Toyota" will not to be randomized, remaining locked in place.

The following two sections outline each of the parameters and controls and explains the behaviour that they have.
